Common Prius problems we fix
Red triangle and P0A80 (Gen 2 and Gen 3)
The classic Prius failure: one or more battery modules drop out of balance and the car tells you to replace the hybrid battery. We replace the pack with new modules, usually the same day. Drop it off in the morning and drive it home that afternoon.
Inverter water pump (Gen 2 and Gen 3)
If the inverter pump quits, the inverter overheats and the car goes into limp mode. We replace the pump for $425 with a 3-year/36,000-mile warranty and check the inverter for damage while we are in there.
Brake actuator failure (Gen 2 and Gen 3)
A buzzing pump after you shut the car off, a hard pedal and ABS, VSC and brake lights all at once. Gen 2 actuators are $1,350 (OEM used, 1-year/12,000-mile warranty). Gen 3 actuators are $1,650 (new OEM, 3-year/36,000-mile warranty).
Dash goes blank (Gen 2 combination meter)
The 2004-2009 speedometer display fades or goes dark. We repair the combination meter for $425 with a lifetime warranty, far less than a new cluster from Toyota.
EGR cooler clog and head gasket (Gen 3)
Gen 3 Priuses clog the EGR cooler and pipe, which can lead to misfires, knocking and a blown head gasket. Cleaning the EGR system on schedule is cheap insurance. We also replace coolant control valves ($495, 3-year/36,000-mile warranty).
Catalytic converter theft
The Prius is a top target. We install OEM California-legal converters and the CAT Defender shield ($350) so it does not happen twice.

How long does a Prius battery replacement take?
Most are done the same day. Drop off in the morning and you are usually driving home that afternoon. We also offer mobile hybrid battery replacement in many areas. Call to see if your address qualifies.
Should I rebuild or replace my Prius battery?
If one or two modules are weak and the rest test well, reconditioning can buy time for less money. If the pack is worn across the board, new modules and a long warranty are the better buy. We test it and show you the numbers before you decide.
Is my old Prius worth fixing?
A Prius with a sound engine usually is. A $2,450 battery on a car worth $6,000 to $9,000 is a good trade. If the engine is burning oil or the head gasket is gone, we will tell you before we sell you a battery.
